The Friday Five!

1. If you could change one life-changing event in the life of someone important to you, would you? No. Life is what makes us.
2. Which do you think is easier to do, being friends for many years, or being life partners for many years?
Friends.
3. Have you ever walked away from someone you considered a friend?
Yes, but they walked first.
4. If you had to choose between telling the truth and hurting a friend or lying and making them happy, which would you choose?
depends on the situation.
5. Which would you rather hear–the truth which will hurt, or the comforting lie?
same thing, totally depends.

Well, wasnt THAT elucidating?

Be gone for the weekend, so just do some reading back here, and have a great time Saturday and Sunday. I hope I do!

One last thing for the night: I do love this ‘tag surfer‘ thing you’ll find elsewhere at WordPress.com. Amazing to see the thought and precision people put into this blogging business. On the other foot, I also dig these posts that seem to have nothing to do with anything. Only the author knows for sure. And yet, its fun to try and extrapolate what it’s all about.

I also enjoy the fact they’ve got a spell checker on this thing. My spelling has gotten atrocious, I’ve found. Amazing when you only THINK you know how to spell certain words!

Also trying out My Morning Jacket. The BAND, you see. I’d read about ‘em in MOJO when they first came on the scene, and thought they seemed interesting. After my long suffering and occasionally disagreeing friend Stacia recommended them, well. I couldn’t say no. They’re not Scissor Sisters, that’s for sure. And if you’ve never heard THEM, I prescribe a dose of “I Can’t Decide”, from the LP “Ta-Dah”. Great, fun and funny stuff.

Shiny Happy Discs

But first, before we join our regularly scheduled post, some breaking political news..

or maybe not, as the link won’t work right. Shall we try tomorrow?

Top CDs I’ve Downloaded But Not Sure When I’ll Get Around To Listening To:

“Grace”- Jeff Buckley: Yes, of course I’ve HEARD it; just not sure I’ve ever owned it before. Its (to me) not one you put on as a comfort-listen. “Hallelujah” is such a breath taking song that its hard to get thru it sometimes.

“Metalliology”- Metallica: I may have said before, but I just don’t do officially released best of CDs. I do my own, usually combining some of the ‘hits’, along with album tracks and some fave rarities. My old Metallica best of bit the dust, so this one (only going up to the “Refuel” LP) was meant to be an important replacement. Will I ever actually use it? Hmm.

“Minuet in Hell” and “Paradise of Death”- Doctor Who: Two audio adventures of two different Doctors; the first one featuring Paul McGann (8th) along with The Brigadier. The second (with 3rd Doctor Jon Pertwee) is actually a 1993 BBC audio drama. Written by an actual early DW script writer and featuring several Pertwee-era cast members even. I just don’t know if I’ll ever start, or even then FINISH them. They ARE cool to have whenever I do get there.

“Mitch All Together”- Mitch Hedberg: The one I MOST want to get to; I just love his humor. Too bad he O.D.’d.

Well. All that said, theres one more thing I want to comment on, as I’m sure I’ll have more pointless shiny disc controversy later. Have you heard the news about “The Office” spin-off? Yes, there was just a hint of it before; now we have confirmation of the star of the show: Amy Poehler. Yes, thats what I said. From SNL. Gee, how do you suppose she got this gig? I guess Tina Fey is more powerful at NBC than anyone knew. I don’t think Amy is bad or anything; its just that, #1,the bar was set pretty damn high on the original (US) show, #2 I’m not sure she can headline a sitcom, and #3, I’m really not sure a spin-off of this unique show is such a good idea. What works for C.S.I. and Law and Order may not work everywhere, NBC. However, it does pose the possibility of more Rainn Wilson. And that is always a good thing, my friends. (BTW, don’t forget this years round of Office webisodes just started over at NBC.com).

And just to start something I’ll probably forget, here’s this weeks list of new or upcoming DVDs I REALLY want:

“Mystery Science Theater 3000 20th Anniversary Box Set”

Popeye the Sailor, Vol. 2: 1938-1940″

“Classic Albums: Duran Duran-Rio”

Oh yeah…

Moved every and all to this bloggy thing. Just minutes after the last post; isn’t technology FAB?

"Lionel Ritchie says Hi.."

And so do I. This will be my ‘blog’ from now on. So I’m blogging again after a long hiatus. For my brim-fulla sexual-innuendo journal, go…

On second thought, forget about that. For now.

KEEP IN MIND: all posts following this one are from 2006 and back. I just like some of them, so therefore, here they are.

Anyway, ever use this handy thing on top of the page here? Next blog or something? Try it. You’ll find a fuck load of weird-ass blogs. One was rather nice, picturing old post cards. Another several were disturbing. But you tend to expect that sort of thing on the net, I suppose.

Something else I find sucks about summer: the sun is coming up (peeking, anyway) and its not even 6am! What the hell am I doing up anyway? Well, sir, that sounds like something for a ‘journal’, not a blog. I think a blog is supposed to be all about Barak Oldbammer, or something. I dunno. I’ll do a proper ‘bloggy’ post tomorrow. Have to figure out what about first, I’d imagine…

I’ve Got Nothing To Say, But It’s OK…

3 new bootlegs:
Abbey Road mono reel to reel tape. Why this is mono, I’m not sure, but I know this: I have NEVER been pleased with any CD edition of this LP. You’d think a mono copy would therefore suck too, since there was never an actual mono mix done. Well…
This has to be the best version I’ve heard, barring tape hiss and the first note of “Come Together” missing. Sonically transparent and full of highs and lows and wonderful dynamics. So there ya go.
George Harrison: “Natural Law Party”- a 2 disc set of Georges final show, in benefit of one of his schemes with the Maharishi in the early 90s. Several songs from the opening acts and band, which I skipped. Georges voice cracks here and there, and “Got My Mind Set on You” may be tad TOO enthusiastic, but all in all, a quite good audience recording.
Speaking of…I’m reviewing discs of Pauls new tour, and will let you know which shows are best. Right now, Washington DC sounds best, but the performance is lacking.
NAGRA!: Silent Seas 6 CD box of the ‘best’ of the Get Back rehersals. Best is somewhat of a subjective term for this stuff, but when you listen to stuff like the boys jamming “Rock and Roll Music”, or John singing Pauls earliest tune “I Lost My Little Girl”, you’ll forgive them anything.
Last Live Licks!: Dr. Ebbetts ‘remaster’ of the Apple rooftop concert. Amazingly listenabl, with most of the booming highs taken out, so one doesnt get their ears blown off at the top of “One After 909″. WHY he did this, who knows.

In other news………
I worried no one was listening to my show anymore, as I’d seen NO stats for 2 days now. So, I e-mailed Podomatic customer service, and 15 minutes later, recieved a reply! Amazing, no? Seems their stats system got a bug in it I’d discovered (apparently no one else pays attention), so they are fixing it. It seems, however, there are no stats for YESTERDAY. Either that, or the show went from growing well, to ZIP. Which may be possible. Oh well, I’ll do episode 5 in a day or so.

My favorite TV quote comes from last nights “Becker” re-run:
woman: “So, do you have any hobbies?”
Becker: “Smoking”.

We All Shine On

25 years…whodathunkit, as Dr. Winston might say. And as I might say, episode 3 of “P.O.V.” is here for you, with a look back at the days leading up to Dec. 8th, 1980, and how the media reacted in a pre-CNN world.

OTHER STUFF:

Stephs been having an interesting day. Shes called twice now; once to inform me the important cards and money she thought had been tossed accidentally at work was FOUND yesterday on a storage shelf in back of the store. Hmfh. More money down on layways!!
The second call: When dealing with a nice couple at layaway and getting their address, she discovers they live at our PREVIOUS house. What are the odds? They had a few interesting tidbits to impart.
And finally, on the aforementioned topic of HER podcast…we havent gotten around to it yet. Thought about it last night, but didn’t do it. Thought about it the previous night, didn’t do it cause we were busy doing it. So to speak.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a tiny person pulling ornaments off our Christmas tree.

A brand spankin’ new episode of P.O.V. is up. #2.
Yes, P.O.V.
The name has actually met with success, so what the hell. It’ll save me stumbling over a new name.
Steph will soon have her own show soon, called…dig this…”Fat Chicks Do It Better”.
I will of course be moderator. Its an in-depth look at…well, what it says. Meant to possibly raise big girls self-esteem and awareness, which would beat the hell out of my little traveling elixar podcast.
